What I Wrote

What I Wrote In May 2020

Jeez. It’s already the end of May? How did that happen?

I told myself I’d take it easy for the first two weeks of the month as a reward for finishing the first draft of my book last month! It was still an awful mess, though, so this month was all about patching it up. At the very least, I wanted it to make sense if someone other than myself read it. Because I had characters inexplicably changing motivation or even appearance between scenes, the pacing was all wrong, and new characters were popping up out of nowhere.

I think I’ve smoothed that out now, but I still have some big edits to make to the final act. Sigh. It continues.

Here’s the word tracker!

I did take it easy for the first two weeks. The odd writing I did was mostly for blog posts and such: I spent a lot of time ignoring my fiction and playing Fallout: New Vegas. So that was a nice time.

The rest of the month was spent mostly on edits, which is why I never got back into a steady routine of words. For a beautifully consistent word tracker graph, see last month.

I also did some scary admin stuff which I’m glad is finally done, and setting up my newsletter! At the moment it’s going out every weekend, but I might move it back to biweekly or monthly. I don’t want to flood your inboxes, after all! If you’re at all interested in what I do, sign up to it. You get unique insights, as well as the chance to see my work and upcoming projects before anyone else.

I also made my first YouTube video! I rambled about why I love fantasy so much. So if you want to see me talking, that’s over here.

I think that’s about it for this month. I’m trying to decide whether I should move these monthly updates into my newsletter. They’re starting to feel a little… out of place on the blog.

Anyways, thanks for reading and I’ll see you in July!
